2024 U.S. Open Men’s Singles Draw

An American is guaranteed to make the 2024 U.S. Open men’s singles final.

No. 12 seed Taylor Fritz meets No. 20 Frances Tiafoe in Friday’s semifinals, which will produce the first U.S. men’s Grand Slam finalist since Andy Roddick at 2009 Wimbledon.

Then on Sunday, Fritz or Tiafoe will bid to become the first U.S. male singles player to win a Slam since Roddick at the 2003 U.S. Open.

In the other half of the draw, No. 1 Jannik Sinner beat No. 5 Daniil Medvedev in a quarterfinal pitting the only single-digit seeds left in the field. Sinner gets 25th-seeded Brit Jack Draper in the semis.

The draw was rocked on back-to-back nights with upsets in the first week.

Carlos Alcaraz, the 2022 U.S. Open champion and No. 3 seed, was stunned in three sets by 74th-ranked Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands in the second round.

It was Alcaraz’s earliest Grand Slam defeat since 2021 Wimbledon, when he had just turned 18.

Then Novak Djokovic was ousted by 28th seed Alexei Popyrin of Australia in the third round. It marked the 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic’s earliest Grand Slam defeat since the 2017 Australian Open.

For the first time since 2002, none of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will win a Slam in a calendar year.
