Kyle Harrison’s MRI showed only mild shoulder inflammation, according to the Giants, and he’ll be reevaluated after a week of no throwing.

It sounds like this is something he could potentially make a quick return from, but it’s more likely that the Giants will wind up shutting him down. The 23-year-old was placed on the IL on Friday after going 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA in 24 starts.

Giants placed LHP Kyle Harrison on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Sept. 4, with left shoulder inflammation.

Harrison goes on the IL after giving up 11 runs over 7 1/3 innings in his last two starts, leaving him 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA for the season. No word yet on if he’s done for the year. The Giants might consider promoting Carson Whisenhunt to take over for him in the rotation or they could just employ bullpen games until Robbie Ray is back.

Giants recalled RHP Austin Warren from Triple-A Sacramento.

Warren made one appearance for the Giants last month, throwing two scoreless innings. He’ll be available in the pen tonight, and he could be a candidate to start a bullpen game Sunday.

Rather than going with Kyle Harrison, the Giants are planning on calling up Austin Warren to start Sunday.

Harrison, who has hit a career high for innings, has given up 11 runs in his last two starts and might be wearing down. We’ll probably find out later today what kind of pause this is for him.

Patrick Bailey drove in three runs and hit a walkoff ground-rule double to give the Giants a 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Bailey was responsible for all of the offense for the Giants on Thursday. Well, at least the driving hitters in portion of it. The backstop hit a two-run single off Merrill Kelly in the fourth, and then he gave San Francisco the win with the two-bagger off Kevin Ginkel that scored Tyler Fitzgerald. Bailey has now driven in 42 runs, and the pair of knocks helps improve his slash to a still-uninspiring .233/.295/.339 over 348 at-bats.

Blake Snell allowed two runs over just one inning in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Snell needed 42 pitches to get through the inning, as he walked two and allowed two hits. Both runs scored in bizarre fashion, as one came across on an infield single featuring an error, and the other on a passed ball by Patrick Bailey on a strikeout of Jake McCarthy. As dominant as Snell has been since July, there are still starts like this that will drive fantasy managers insane. He should be fresh for Wednesday’s start against the Brewers.

Giants agreed to terms with 3B Matt Chapman on a six-year, $151 million extension through 2030.

Good for Chapman, who gets the contract he deserved last winter. The Giants have already confirmed the deal, while the dollar amount comes from ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Chapman was slated to opt out of the final two years of a three-year, $54 million deal once the season ended. The one-time All-Star (LOL) with four Gold Gloves and a career 118 OPS+ is now under contract through his age-37 season. He’s been one of the NL’s 10-best players in hitting .247/.333/.445 this year.

Lamonte Wade Jr. went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Wade Jr. drove in all four runs for the Giants on Wednesday as they fell to the D-Backs. He took Kevin Ginkel deep for a two-run shot in the seventh to break the shutout, then added two more runs on a single in the ninth before San Francisco’s comeback efforts fell short. The 30-year-old first baseman is hitting. 267/.398/.385 with six homers, 40 runs scored, and 27 RBI across 335 plate appearances.

SF Starting Pitcher #60

Hayden Birdsong allowed two runs with four strikeouts over three innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Birdsong had trouble finding the zone on Wednesday, walking five batters in an inefficient outing against the D-Backs. Two walks and a base hit brought a run in to score in the first inning. Eugenio Suárez took him deep to lead off the second. Birdsong would strand three more runners in the second inning and two in the third before his day was done at 77 pitches. The 23-year-old right-hander is in line to take a 5.19 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 64/35 K/BB ratio across 52 innings into a start against the Brewers in San Francisco on Tuesday.

Matt Chapman was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup against the Diamondbacks.

No reason has been given for why Chapman was scratched from the lineup just yet. Tyler Fitzgerald was initially out of the lineup, but he’ll now take Chapman’s place and play shortstop while hitting cleanup. Brett Wisely moves to third base.
