  • IND Kicker #7
It sounds like Gay is headed for a questionable tag once the Colts release their final injury report. Gay hasn’t been listed as a participant in practice this week but Steichen told reporters he did kick some this week. If he can’t go, practice squad kicker Spencer Shrader will get the nod. Shrader went 43-of-63 on his field goal attempts in college. This situation is one to avoid for fantasy managers.
  • IND Wide Receiver #1
Downs suffered an ankle injury early in training camp and has been sidelined ever since. Both head coach Shane Steichen and Downs himself have been optimistic about him returning soon, so we could see the second-year wideout back in action as early as Indy’s Week 2 matchup with the Packers. For now, rookie Adonai Mitchell will approach a full-time role for the Colts, making him a clear stash in any fantasy leagues where he went undrafted.
  • IND Wide Receiver #1
Downs did not practice this week and is all but a lock to miss the season opener against the Texans. However, the second-year receiver was seen running at near full speed and cutting, which is a good sign that he could be nearing a return as early as Week 2 when the Colts take on the Packers. Assuming Downs misses Sunday’s contest, rookie Adonai Mitchell could be asked to step up and man the slot role — something he had been doing after Downs was injured back in early August.
  • IND Kicker #7
Gay has been dealing with this injury for more than two weeks and has yet to practice as a result. He’s undoubtedly trending toward missing Sunday’s season opener against the Texans, which would put practice squad kicker Spencer Shrader in line for his first career start. During his five collegiate seasons, Shrader converted on 43-of-63 field goal attempts (68.3 percent) and made 98.7 percent of his extra point attempts. If Gay can’t go, we would advise using a more established kicker than Shrader in your Week 1 fantasy lineups.
  • IND Wide Receiver #1
Downs said earlier that he was “really close” to returning, but his status for Week 1 remains very much up in the air. Barring a turn of events on Friday, there’s a good chance the second-year receiver misses the season opener against the Texans, with Week 2 becoming the new target date for a return. Rookie Adonai Mitchell would have some upside in deeper leagues if Downs were unable to go.
  • IND Wide Receiver #1
Downs did not practice on Wednesday but said he ran some routes. The second-year receiver hasn’t ruled out the possibility of playing in Week 1 against the Texans, but the real tell will be his practice status later in the day. If he can log a limited session before the end of the week, Downs may be ready to go for the opener. If not, rookie Adonai Mitchell could see a bigger role as the No. 2 receiver opposite Michael Pittman Jr.
  • IND Kicker #7
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said the injury — which Gay suffered two weeks ago — is probably not long term and likely won’t require surgery. It’s concerning Gay has yet to practice ahead of the team’s Week 1 game against Houston, however. K Spencer Shrader out of Notre Dame, who kicked for the Colts in the preseason, would get the nod if Gay is sidelined.
  • IND Wide Receiver #1
Colts head coach Shane Steichen has yet to rule out Downs. Still, he appears to be a long shot to suit up for Week 1 against the Texans. Downs picked up the ankle injury August 7 and was given a recovery time of 4-6 weeks. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Colts held out Down until Week 3. If Downs is sidelined, Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce, and Adonai Mitchell would likely be the team’s top three wideouts. Anthony Gould could work in as a slot receiver too.
  • IND Wide Receiver #1
Steichen didn’t say whether or not Downs will practice on Wednesday when the team takes the field for the first time in preparation for Sunday’s opener against the Texans, making his status one to monitor when the first injury report drops. Downs suffered a high-ankle sprain back on August 7 and was expected to need 4-6 weeks to recover. A return in Week 1 would put him on the short end of that timeline, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he missed a week or two to open the season. Be sure to check back in on Wednesday for an update.
  • FA Running Back #5
It makes sense from the perspective that the Colts have terrifyingly little depth behind workhorse starter Jonathan Taylor. It makes less sense in that 29-year-old Fournette doesn’t seem to have much left to give at this point. Even so, he could be an upgrade on Trey Sermon if he signs. Fournette would be a weak contingency back undoubtedly ticketed for a committee were he to end up in Indy and Taylor went down with injury.
